SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITY

During the course of her scientific activity, VG worked in the field of medical genetics using the most recent techniques to investigate gene mutations, gene expression profiles, epigenetic modifications (DNAmethylation, microRNAs) in different models. Recently, her interest has been focused mainly on the development of analytical methods to better elucidate how an interaction between external environmental stimuli and genetics can potentially impact health and disease state, with particular reference to reproductive disorders, as well as drug response following ant-inflammatory or hormonal treatments. She has also used the most recent techniques for the study of gene mutations causing pathologies such as male infertility, short stature (linked to mutations of the SHOX gene),familiar breast cancer (due to mutations of the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes), and several neuromuscular diseases (Duchenne Muscular Dystrohpy, distal SMA, and others).
