-National expert within the European Commission’s working group on the impact of Marine Litter, conducting laboratory activities for the analysis of macro and microplastics.

Responsible for a line of activity in the PNRR-Marine Ecosystem Restoration project focusing on the removal and disposal of abandoned or lost fishing and aquaculture gear at sea, known as “ghost nets.”

SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITY

The research activity is concentrated on applied plant biology, on pharmaceutical botany and on the study of the secondary metabolism of plant species, extracts and derived products, also through the characterization of the biological activity profile of extracts and derivatives. Attention is focused on the application aspects of plants from the spontaneous and cultivated flora, whose composition is also investigated as a tool for comparative biosystematic, chemotaxonomic and rational in-depth pharmacological use. Innovative application of folk medicinal plants and the valorization of agrifood byproducts as secondary raw materials are also object of research interest.
